The National Board of Executive Function Certification (NBEFC) exists to establish, uphold, and advance the highest professional standards in the emerging field of executive function. Our mission is to ensure that professionals who support individuals in developing executive function skills meet rigorous requirements of knowledge, ethics, and practice.

Why We Exist

Executive function skills are the foundation of success in education, work, and personal life. Skills such as planning, organization, focus, emotional regulation, and problem-solving are not only vital to individual achievement but also to the productivity and well-being of schools, workplaces, and communities. The NBEFC was created to serve as the independent authority that validates the competence of professionals in this discipline.

We believe that professional standards matter. Certificates from training programs are important but they do not provide the public with assurance that a professional has been evaluated by an impartial body. The NBEFC credential is designed to offer that assurance. It confirms that a practitioner has met clearly defined requirements, has passed a comprehensive examination, and is committed to ongoing professional growth and ethical conduct.

How We Fulfill Our Mission

Our mission is carried out in three ways. First, we develop and administer examinations that measure the essential knowledge and competencies required for professional practice in executive function. Second, we maintain a registry of credentialed professionals so that employers, clients, and educational institutions can confirm qualifications with confidence. Third, we require credential renewal through continuing education to ensure that practitioners remain current with research and best practices.

The NBEFC is also committed to promoting integrity, transparency, and fairness in the credentialing process. We operate as an impartial body that serves the public interest, not as a training school or a commercial venture. Our goal is to advance the credibility of executive function as a professional discipline and to provide a trusted benchmark of quality for those who serve in this field.
